ABC Bookcase

ABC bookcase from do shop

I thought this was such fun I wanted to show it to you. It’s an Italian design shelving system designed by Eva Alessandrini and Roberto Saporiti and I just love it. You can see from the picture below that it’s not just a joke either – it’s properly practical; there are a lot of books in there.

In addition to every letter of the alphabet you can also get all the numbers so you can basically create anything you want. From a simple shelving unit spelling out a name to any word you like.

Now I’ve been shouting loud and long about that dreadful fashion for words and typography but I do make exceptions. For every rule etc….  and I make two exceptions. One is the Arne Jacobsen letters on plates and mugs. Because he is proper and the other is when it is something really useful that, actually, I bet lots of people wouldn’t even notice once it was full of books.

There are different colour options available – by which I mean black, white, grey or natural (that’s all the colour you need, the books will do the rest) and also a coffee table and seat or a noughts and crosses shelving unit.

Or anything you like really… It’s available from the Do Shop and is the kind of thing that would look great on a landing or in a hallway where it wouldn’t be shouting at you that it had a hidden meaning but one day a guest would notice and it would just be like a little extra thing that your house had that added to its enjoyment. Like a secret passage or a hidden door.

And on that note…. today’s Blog Tour is by the inestimable Swoonworthy whose editor, Kimberly Duran is also quoted in the book. Do drop in if you have time.

  1. oh I love these! What a great concept, thanks for sharing. Almost a shame to fill them up with books. Now I wish i had a nice long hallway with an empty wall at the end that I could fill up with a book shelf message

  2. Now what you didn’t say was that this bookcase is a complete optical illusion! I kept wondering if I needed another cup of coffee to understand what you were talking about regarding letters until Lo and behold I saw the last image and my lights went on! LOL
