Babylon Print by House of Hackney

Oh how we all scoffed at Pantone when they said their colour of the year was greenery. Aaaccch it was a nasty leafy yellowy shade wasn’t it. But how we are not scoffing now. Because, taken literally, greenery really has turned out to be the colour for 2017. And, I’m willing to lay odds, for 2018 as well.

I’m sure most of you are familiar with the work of The House of Hackney which was founded in 2011 by husband and wife team Javvy M Royle and Frieda Gormley. It was started at their kitchen table in the tradition of all the best British businesses with the aiming of using traditional style prints in a totally modern way.

Their work is now seen in both fashion and furniture, houses and hotels and in 2015 they were approached by the William Morris gallery to reimagine some of his work for the 21st century. In short, they’re very, very cool and while some of you may feel that you’ve seen rather a lot of that palm print, this new Babylon literally stopped me in my instagram tracks.

I even have a table and chairs very similar to this at the bottom of the garden. The Mad Husband wants to get rid of it. But if I can dress it up like this with pink glasses and this print it’s going nowhere. The alternative is to build a glass box extension – can’t quite bring myself to call it a conservatory, not grand enough for an orangery – but this print I must have.

Particularly with those pink glasses and I never thought I’d hear myself say THAT. But if this is too green and summery for you, or, if like me, you have run out of rooms, then it does also come in a grey background with green leaves (green and grey is a brilliant combination) and a navy blue slightly silvery version.

It’s no good. I need another room….

  1. I just love it. The fringed lampshade against the wallpaper etc etc. I have two wooden lampstands that recently were updated with beautiful lampshades from Lush Designs, now can I add the fringing on? Lol.
