Look closely at this bouquet… do you see? It looks at first glance like a vase of exotic flowers but on closer inspection it’s actually tiny scones and jam, mini battenburg cakes, muffins and curled up cucumber sandwiches. It’s the most amazing thing and I spent a fascinating day watching its creation when it was shot on location here at the Mad House last week.
It was an initiative by Groupon who say that sales of afternoon tea and flowers increase by 30 per cent and 240 per cent in the run up to Mother’s Day. So they decided to combine the two. As you do. And the result is this extraordinary creation by food design company Blanch and Shock. Here’s Mike putting the finishing touches to it. The *water* in the bottom of the vase is actually Prosecco if you were wondering.
Mike and his team spent a total of 70 hours planning, designing and constructing the bouquet and used 10kg flour, 3kg butter, 5kg sugar and 40 eggs in the process. Each cake really was modelled on a flower so you have battenberg Hydrangeas, buttercup scones with rhubarb jam and cream icing, tulip cucumber sandwiches and cupcake gerberas.
For a chance to win the bouquet you can follow the link here www.gr.pn/bouquet.
To see a little video of Mike explaining his creation watch this and bear in mind this is the first video to be shown on the Mad House blog. If you like it I might do another….I might vlog. Actually that might be step too far.
This is so beautiful! It would be hard to eat one it would just mess up the bouquet. This rock! thanks for your wonderful ideas and inspirations.
loving the innovation and intricacy….you can almost smell the hard work.
Wow – you had me at ‘cake’ – and then there was prosecco!
