Coat Rack with Hangers

Georg2

It must be something about the start of the new year (academic I know but no less significant for that) that makes me feel I must get organised. Perhaps it’s an excuse for a week of procrastination before actually getting down to any work, but I know that in addition to the to do lists, and done lists and lists of lists that I’m never going to do but have written down anyway, I am irresistibly drawn to storage.

This rather gorgeously simple coat rack and leather hangers is by Danish brand Skagerak and can be found in Skandium. It costs (ahem) £129 for the rack and £45 for the hangers. Which means I won’t actually be buying it any time soon, although I might perhaps buy the hangers and attach them to a much simpler rail (like an old broom handle). I also rather love the table which fits to the wall with a bracket as it has only two legs giving it a more stream-lined look.

But just when I was despairing of finding enough money for everything that I suddenly feel compelled to store and tidy and put away, the new Ikea catalogue dropped through the letterbox landing on the mat with a satisfyingly weighty thud. And what treasures therein!

This rail is from the Ikea PS 2014 range (always the bit I check first as it’s the most design led part of the collection) and you start with the simple wooden rail which costs a tenner and then you can choose various pegs, hooks and accessories to add to it including a handy little shelf. Great for the hall but also for a child’s room. I have just fixed an old shaker style rail to the wall in my son’s bedroom (well I use the pronoun “I” loosely, it was my husband but I was in the room at the time) which has six pegs. He is planning to hang a clean shirt on each one with his school blazer, trousers and tie on the sixth, which strikes me as a very organised way to go about things. Not to mention a good way of seeing at a glance how many days are left till the weekend.

Oh I love being organised. Well talking about it at least! Have a happy day.
