Cool Contemporary Watering Can

It may not have entirely escaped your notice that there’s currently a bit of a mania fashion for house plants. My own collection has been growing by stealth, much to the dismay of The Mad Husband who feels that they are taking over space that should rightfully be his.

Mind you once he realised that he was able to leave the house for work in the morning as if everything was perfectly normal and come to home to find a six foot tall brass palm tree light in the sitting room by the time he came home, I think he realised all bets were off.

And also that if you can accept a gold palm tree, then a little green plant minding its own business in the corner is as nothing compared with that. However, all this plant stuff needs gear. It needs accessories and stuff to go with it.

I have written about plant pots before – not least in my round up of the 10 best earlier this month but that’s not all. I need a cool, and contemporary, watering can.

Now yes of course I could buy a plastic watering can and be done with it. But you know I’m not going to. If I were going to do that then this blog would have no reason to exist. Up until now I have been grabbing the water carafe from the fridge and using that but it occurs to me that these plants won’t necessarily like their water chilled. And that means drinking a full bottle of chilled water before I can refill with room temperature water and by the time I have done that I have invariably forgotten why I was drinking all this water, refilled the bottle and put it back in the fridge.

I also don’t seem to have  large water jug. Clearly I need to remedy that at some point too. I have a number of small milk jugs (why – when one would do I have no idea) and I have a number of large glass vases but they won’t pour. I don’t have a large water jug.

So I need a cool contemporary watering can. I found this one. By Haws which comes in black and copper. Then, just as I was congratulating myself on having the kit I read that plants like to be misted. Gently. On their leaves. With a misting thing. Honestly they’re harder work than the cat. Anyway, I found a plant mister. Also by Haws. So it matches the can. Gorgeous.

Seriously, why spend money on shoes and handbags when you can buy cans and misters to clutter up the space. I guess I’ll be writing about storage next.

  1. I bought a beautiful pale green Haws watering can and loved it. Until it fell off the porch and got a huge dent in it. I still love it though.

  2. I do love your daily posts, they make me smile! It feels like you are here at the kitchen table with me, chatting and giving me all the inside info on great interiors & products. The mornings just wouldn’t be the same without my daily dose of Mad about the House. Keep up the good work.

  3. I read your blog every day and I love it! I’ve always loved my home and spend hours doing stuff around the place despite my work as an editor at a publishing house and I’m constantly being told I have a problem! That I should let things be! How can I when I see beauty in all the lovely little things around me and they are constantly calling out to me to move them around or get them companions or perhaps add a green growing thing there or another book or perhaps a blue bird. So I absolutely enjoy your writing and style with your home and those that you pick to display to your readers.
