Decorum Shop Delights

I do love a bit of leather attached to a house accessory. Chopping boards with leather handles, mirrors with leather straps, you name it. Usually the mirrors are earbleedingly expensive though. The king of leather strapped mirrors is the Jacques Adnet Circulaire which he made in the 1950s. The French designer was working in collaboration with Hermes at the time and it has always been rumoured, but never substantiated, that he made his design for the French store. That is, apparently, why his straps look a bit like horse bridles. If you want to know more you can read it in this piece I wrote for The Financial Times.

Anyway, that mirror, gorgeous though it is, retails at a bit of Financial Times kind of price if you know what I mean. It’s around £475 I believe. Exactly. Enter the Marston round mirror from Decorum Shop. The large one, which measures 40cm in diameter – just 5cm smaller than the Adnet – is £68. Which is a bit more like it frankly. I shall be hanging one of these in the bathroom in the loft. Above the Urban Basin.

While I was wandering around this online shop, which I must confess was new to me, I also fancied these chairs pictured above and the round tray table. You can choose different trays to balance on it.

So – bronze mirror with leather strap. Object of Design. Qualified.

Have a happy day everyone. May it be full of wine and cake.

PS: a couple of days after I wrote this post I walked past the actual shop in Shoreditch and I have now seen those tables IRL (as they say) and they are as lovely as I suspected. Just thought you’d like to know.

  1. Love your blog and I’m near afraid to ask this but….do you know what price the tables are? They are beautiful!

  2. yes that is always nice to know and great feeling when something you’ve admired is just as good in real life or (IRF) as you put it – never heard of that one before!
