Design Your Own Table

Now this is a good idea. How many times have you seen a table that you nearly like but not quite? Or one that’s a tad too big? Or small. Or it’s the perfect size but you hate the legs. A new company called Little Snug, whose owners had exactly the same problem, have just launched a “Design Your Own Table” service.

Whereas most of us just keep complaining about not being able to find the table we want, or compromise and get a teenier bit crosser every time we sit down to lunch, Dan Barlow and Russ Lambert did something about it. Russ had been hunting for a table for ages and couldn’t find what he wanted. Handily his mate Dan is a carpenter (why are none of my friends useful? I mean apart from the employment lawyer, frankly what use are a DJ, a children’s bedding designer and a guitarist? Why aren’t I friends with plumbers and carpenters? Anyway, Russ asked Dan to “knock something up” for him. As you do.

And then at the housewarming party all the guests asked him where he got it and so Dan got asked to make lots more tables. So they went into business together. And now you can choose a table from a range of options and colours and, crucially, have exactly the size you want. Prices start at £635 and you can fiddle with the length and width using a slider so you really can have exactly the dimensions that you need to fit into your space.

When you’ve chosen the size (either round or rectangle) you decide on the edge of the table – fancy or plain – and then the legs – there are seven on offer. Finally you pick a colour and if I tell you that there is plain unpainted oak (see above) or seven colours from either Little Greene or Farrow and Ball then you know exactly what you’re getting into. So Downpipe or Railings, French Gray or Hicks Blue.

They are considering offering a painted top instead of just the wood as well so if you want that then do ask them.

They also sell chairs and benches to complete the set, as well as lights and tableware. So, if your search for a table was proving annoying, give this place a look. You never know, you might be about to go bespoke.
