Never has the name Out of the Dark seemed so appropriate. Look at these gorgeous jewel-like pieces looming out of the shadows. They are the result of a collaboration between the charitable furniture company Out of the Dark and my good friend Zoe Brewer, an interior stylist.
It’s called The Flower Project and you can see why. But, in addition to that, anyone who has ever met Zoe knows that she always wears pink and she always has a flower in her hair so this really is her collection.
The project is a collection of individual pieces created for the London Design Festival which were dreamt up in Zoe’s head and made reality at the Out of the Dark workshop.
It was designed to provoke everybody’s creative juices to explore what might be possible in upholstery. The pieces were deliberately chosen for being quite bland and in a sorry state. The colours were inspired by bright jewels and vintage gems and the fabrics are all lush velvets, the ultimate in glamour for furniture upholstery.
The Out of the Dark team then did all the sanding, painting, upholstering and recovering before adding the finishing touches of the felt flowers which were handmade by Zoe and her own team.
Zoe said: “I gave OOTD quite a challenge with this project – attaching 3D embellishment was something new for us all. I’m so very proud of the results. Jay’s attention to detail in the production stages proved key in ensuring the furniture is beautifully finished.”
The pictures were all taken by Paul Craig and prices range from £285 for the painted chairs above to £1,950 for the bed and £695 for the Betty Boo chair.
You can see the collection at South Kilburn Studios all next week and after that do contact Zoe about your own commissions or buying some of these.
