We’re going big and we’re going bold this week. Wolf Hall may have finished but my delusions of grandeur remain, so we’re heading off to Gloucestershire first.
It’s in Alderley, Gloucestershire with Knight Frank and it’s POA sadly, but with ten bedrooms, seven reception rooms, outbuildings, secondary accommodation and land, I think we can assume it’s not for the writers and nurses among us.
Still no harm in looking eh? And possibly even copying a bit. Flagstone floors, white cupboards and an old refectory style table. A classic combination and one that works just as well in a small space.
And while most of us can only dream of a hall this big, there’s nothing to stop us adding a few houseplants to our own along with a faded vintage rug. If you cut this picture in half, this could work for me as my hall is very narrow. And what’s not to like about leather sofas, high ceilings and big mirrors.
Mind you, the fact that there’s a practice polo ground probably tells you who’s going to buy it. Anyone seen Rupert Campbell Black recently?
Moving on to something completely different. This amazing property has been on the market before but is either back or didn’t sell. Either way I rather love it.
It’s on the market for £2,000,000 with Savills and was converted from two water towers. It recently featured as the setting for Richard Ayoade’s Gadget Man series, beloved by my two children who adored the house and were astonished to discover that he didn’t really live in it. Mind you, my eldest is only just cottoning onto the fact that Top Gear is one big stunt from beginning to end so this was bound to be a shock.
This Grade II listed building was built in the early 1930s and was a functioning water softening plant until 1942. The current owners acquired the property in 2005, and have converted, restored and refurbished the building.
I love the muted colours and raw materials that have been used inside and if I had two million in the bank….It’s even got a heated roof top pool. I swore I’d never leave London but I could be tempted for this. That’s when I’m not being tempted by Jacobean mansions and Tudor palaces. Honestly, so many houses, so little money.
Where next? You want more? I’m not sure I can top these. All right what about this then? Granted it’s not much cheaper than the one above and it has only two bedrooms and no swimming pool but that’s London for you. It’s inconvenient like that.
This is a converted church hall that’s on the market with Mount Grange Heritage for £1,650,000 and it is lovely and characterful.
The living space is open plan but look at the height of the ceilings. And it might only have two bedrooms but it has two bathrooms too so the comfort quotient is high.
There’s a spiral staircase up to a mezzanine level so you could possibly create another bedroom up there if you wanted. At the moment there is one downstairs and one above it at the back of the property.
So there we have it people. I’m going to Kent and possibly pied a terring in London. What about you?
You’re hilarious. I love the “honestly, so many houses, so little money” quip. Just perfect!
I’d have put my shoes away before having the pictures taken…
its the church hall for me, but im a bit disappointed with the bedroom, wouldn’t you think they would put away the runners, shoes etc before they took the photos, but even with the runners on view, I love its odd and ends of furniture, all sitting just right together, so much nicer than the super styled houses.
I’m moving into the water tower this week. Stunning…thanks for showing that house!
Enjoyed reading this post. Salivating at the potential and the ‘what if’s’ of these amazing properties. I can only dream on ….
love the Gloucestershire house!
