The Househunter Room by Room

Happy Friday everyone. Or happy any day you happen to be reading this. We’re just going to one house this week because a) you’re all out hunting for Easter Eggs and running around in the sun and b) – the real reason – it’s such a great house we’re going to have a really good poke about. It’s not often we bother with the celebrity house because they are usually so removed from anything approaching our own reality that it’s usually only worth looking for the gawp factor. Also, I don’t know about you, but most of the time I don’t like their houses. They’re too done. Too over the top. Too unreal.

But this one is different. This one I could live in. This is the home of Kirsten Wiig the actress, writer and comedian which is for sale for $2.4m. I have no idea why she is selling. If this was mine you’d have to take me out in a box but who knows, maybe she has her eye on something better.

See the rest of the house here – there’s quite a lot more and full details are on 2300rondavista.com if you fancied, you know, putting an offer in.

black fire place and fiddle leaf fig

First up – check that fiddle leaf fig. Mind you, it’s probably happier bathing in the LA sun than in the drizzle of north London but even so – a magnificent specimen. Next up, that black wall to hide the telly and the shelf in front to put things on. Yes I might paint the whole wall but this works well because the shelf makes it look like she (or the interior designer) meant it. It has purpose rather than just being a random patch of black wall.

This is the other end of the room. Pink chairs in a black kitchen. A bold choice and I like it. I have just bought black chairs. If I was just pleasing myself I might have gone pink. I did suggest green to himself. He wasn’t convinced. And it’s true it might be a fad but you can always paint them or, in the case of the ones above, have them recovered when you get bored.

Sticking with the black accents we move into the kitchen. This does, at least, look like a real kitchen where someone might actually cook food rather than the usual celebrity fare. It’s sort of tucked into a galley area at the end of the dining room which is clever because the cook isn’t too cut off from everyone else but the dirty dishes are all out of sight.

Now this, I thought when I saw, it is a great sitting room. Loving the Ikea rand rug, which should basically have its won instagram account, and the strong black and white decor mixed with vintage wood and, of course, all that gorgeous greenery outside. Then I turned round. And realised it was just one end of the bedroom.

Lots of inspirational ideas to take from this place though. Strong colours, geometric patterns, black and white with a hint of pink and lots of plants all with a mid century vibe. And to finish – because it’s a bank holiday weekend – that balcony. That view. Has anyone got $2.5m they can lend me?

  1. Gorgeous! And all that outdoor space. The next place must be incredible in order for her to move from this one.

  2. I have to agree with you, Kate, they would have to drag me out by my bloody fingertips! I love the pops of colour against the strong black and white. That balcony. I’m in love.

    Happy Easter!
