Industrial Desk Light

Well this desk light is ticking a few boxes isn’t it? It’s made by District Eight Design, a Vietnamese company founded in 2010. Their office is in a refurbished colonial townhouse facing Saigon River and the firm was one of the first in Vietnam to merge design and build.

Although originally set up to preserve and develop historically significant buildings, warehouses, and objects in Ho Chi Minh City, District Eight has expanded to include a range of modern industrial furniture and, their newest venture, lighting.

I featured one of their sofas a few months ago and now I have found the lighting which you can buy from Out and Out Original. This Ruskin light costs £129. Or you might like the Gooseneck, which is £99.

Now I know that some of you don’t like these wire shades as the bulb can be too harsh on the eyes. However, the bare bulb is a trend that’s here to stay, so if you’re nervous about it, try a Squirrel cage bulb. Not only are they beautiful, they also give out a much more gentle light. For the technical details read Barbara Chandler’s piece on the whys and watts of these bulbs – she has explained it all perfectly.

And then come and browse around a few of these and and see what takes your fancy. There’s lots more by this company at Out and Out Original, including this rather lovely chair made from forged steel with a hand-stitched leather seat.

Wishing you all a very happy day.
