When I am advising clients on purchasing things for their homes I always try to give them three choices. That way, I say to them, if they want to blow the budget on a fabulous light and sit on an Ikea chair they can. Or, I add, they might prefer to do it the other way round. For those rare clients who have no budget this is irrelevant. For the rest of us that gives more control over the immediate money but also means that they might see something amazing that they want to save up for so they can have the chair and the light.

With that in mind, here are three pieces from Julian Chichester that I love. Yes they are expensive but I know I would love them forever. And, of course, there is always the option of sitting on the floor while saving up to buy a chair.

Don’t forget though, that you can mix high and low pieces and they will work together. It’s the same as wearing a fabulous pair of expensive shoes with a pair of jeans from Topshop. In the same way that you should spend on bags and shoes to bring an outfit up so lighting and accessories will do the same thing in a room.

If you’re interested the top light is £1,157 for the floor version and the wall light is £814 for the large and £617 for small. I fainted before I could ask the price of the brass and leather table. You get the picture. It doesn’t mean I want it any less though.

  1. Completely agree! Mixing high end with high street is so effective when trying to achieve a great interior no matter what budget is available. I also give examples from the fashion world as many people can relate to that. Great lighting by the way.

  2. not only do I love these items but also your mindset of sitting on the floor whilst you save for a chair (some people wouldn’t actually consider this but genuinely I would if I really wanted the piece. i would convince myself that its worth investing in something you really want rather than having a chair and light at the same time but don’t really want – madness) – i have often thought about blowing the budget on something and having less money to spend on food which would then actually mean you get the item you really want and a diet plan thrown in – win win I say!
