Leather Daybed

leather daybed

There’s something about a daybed. I don’t know what it is but I just love the idea. Perhaps it’s the thrill of an illicit lie down in the middle of the day. Perhaps, as in the case of this one by Antonio Citterio for Flexform, it’s just the beautiful and simple pared back design.

After all, let’s be honest, it doesn’t actually even look that comfortable. If you really wanted a sneaky daytime nap I reckon you’d be more likely to nod off on the sofa than on this, but still… I want it.

I think I could take to the life of a genteel Victorian invalid quite well. Note the table that slides over the side for easy access. That rug is surely cashmere and I’m equally sure that’s a deliciously trashy novel. For me you just can’t go wrong with a Jilly Cooper. I have most of them and I insist on putting them on the bookshelves next to Mr W-S’s more literary tomes. It slightly makes him wince but I like to think that at night, if books talk to each other, then Jilly would shake out all their fustiness.

I met her once. She was utterly charming (and a bit mad), as you might expect. Then I included one of her books in a round of up the 50 best reads I was doing for The Independent and she sent me a card to say thank you, because the newspapers always ignore her and she was so thrilled to be included.

Anyway, I digress – so what’s new? This is a leather daybed it costs thousands of pounds – around five of them. I still want it.
