Lenny Kravitz Furniture

Now let’s get one thing clear from the off: I’m not normally a fan of the celebrity-turns-designer thing. For the most part I view it as a cynical money-making exercise that pushes the real designers out of the way and prevents them from being able to make a living using their properly acquired skills and training.

But, there are exceptions to every rule. Victoria Beckham has turned out to be pretty good at dresses. Maybe she doesn’t cut or sew them and I’m sure she has help but she clearly has a good eye and knows what she wants her stuff to look like.

And so it is the case with this collection by Lenny Kravitz. I like it. Yes I do. I like that it’s a bit 70s, lots of monochrome with gold and leather. It is a blend of all the things I’m always banging on about and there are definitely pieces that I would have in my own house.

I am aware that this is a controversial statement to make, but you know by now, at least I hope you do, that I support small design companies as well as larger ones. That I try to find unusual and interesting things to inspire you and when I saw this I liked some of it and I thought you might like to see it.

Kravitz set up his own design studio in 2003 and has put a team together which has worked on various interior projects both residential and commercial before turning his eye to products.

Well now you’ve had a look at it what do you think? Should he stick to the guitar or do we think this is ok? It is, by the way, available to ship from the US from CB2 should you want any of it.

The question is would your opinions on this collection change if you didn’t know the name of the designer? I have a fantastic vintage clothes shop near my house and sometimes have to ask myself: “Do I actually love that bag because I love that bag or do I love it because it is Prada and is a fantastic price for second hand Prada bag?” That is the question we need to ask ourselves.

The answer, by the way, is that yes, sometimes I am just swayed by the logo. But while I might be a label queen when it comes to handbags, I’m really not when it comes to furniture. I either like it or I don’t. What do you think? Let’s throw open the discussion… Start your kravitzing in the comments section:

  1. Love this collection! Needs an Alpaca fur rug or fur throw to add a blissful feeling of luxury and comfort. Nice job on this collection Kate! Really like the style.

  2. I love it! I wouldn’t have guessed it was a ‘celeb designer’ collection and I love the mix of leather, gold and graphic print. What are the prices like though?

  3. I like the rug/wire chair/brown cushion combination, but that’s about it. The rest of it is just too hipster/retro for me.

  4. Oh Kate, for the first time in my subscription to your blog ….I’m dissapointed… You just needed to say…it’s Lenny Kravitz…he is a god….of rock and of love….behold his furniture progeny…..!

  5. Love these pieces – Lenny has a great design eye. Did you see the designs he created for Flavor Paper – also very cool

  6. even without knowing it was by Lenny Kravitz – think I’d like the hip 70’s vibe, it certainly goes with his image. The side table would look great in my home!
