Mad About … Beautiful Kitchens

I realise that beautiful kitchens is rather a subjective title, but I think even the most hardened stainless steel fan can’t fail to appreciate some of these. They’re from Plain English, who have just announced a new range of colours for their cupboards with fabulous names such as Draughty Passage and Boiled Dishcloth.

Now, obviously it would be hard to go wrong in a room this size with those fabulous windows but even so. I love the pale grey and the rise and fall lamps over the island.

It doesn’t matter how often I look at fashionable high gloss cabinets, there is still something immensely appealing about wooden ones. And, unless you live in a totally square box, they will need to be bespoke as there are always odd sizes.

Plain English is currently marking its 20th anniversary and has produced the new range of colours to go with its Georgian-inspired cabinetry.

There are 12 new shades in the range, which was produced in conjunction with interior decorator Adam Bray and the names are wonderfully evocative of old English houses. In addition to the aforementioned, there is Scullery Latch, Dripping Tap and Draughty Passage.

There are five different styles of kitchen to chose from, each one inspired by designs from the past including Shaker, Long House and Spitalfields, which takes its name from the merchant houses in that part of London and is the dark grey one shown above.

The Osea range is my favourite. Designed in response to the current minimalist trend, Osea is nicknamed the Urban Cabin and has a softer, more organic feel to it. Note the leather handles, which I posted about recently as I first found them in the Danish designer Tine K’s home and was inspired to use them in my own kitchen.
