Mad About… Murals

I have always been a huge fan of wallpaper. This has not always been a fashionable choice. In my last house my mother in law walked in, pronounced the paper “heinous” and arranged to sit with her back to it for the following six years.

It was an extremely tasteful Osborne and Little number in shocking pink with gold. Anyway, in this house we have been restrained with wallpaper. We have one wall only. Purple. Flock. Zoffany. Not heinous.

Well, there has been no official pronouncement on its heinousness/heinosity. Yet. But that doesn’t matter because I find I have moved on. To murals. I know, it’s a leap but suddenly that is what I want.

Suddenly there are loads of options around. I particularly love the one above with the trees. I’d like it behind the bed – it’s restful, pretty and unusual.

But really there are so many options now. From the faux concrete below to the mad surreal zebras of Fornasetti – which I also quite like, although that really may tip my mother in law over the edge. Not to mention my husband.

You can choose from hundreds of existing designs as well as bespoke patterns – basically anything you want. I’ve just gathered some ideas and suggestions together for you so you can see how things look.

I’m not a huge fan of sticking words all over everything but I do like the monochrome aspect of it, but then have a look at the one below (no, not those zebras  – fabulous as they are) but the splashes of paint in bright colours. That’s pretty fabulous too.

Just find a big wall, pick a design you like and take it from there. Which one will you choose?

Although actually when it comes to a bedroom, I think this may be the one. It’s perfect for sunrise and sunset and those colours are just beautiful.
