Monroe Avenue: Vintage furniture

MONROE AVENUE Edwardian grey chair editorial

Now I don’t usually post about sales as they come and go and these posts remain FOR EVER, which is quite a weird thought but still, I thought I would make an exception today as I have been meaning to mention this company to you for a while and it turns out they have a sale on at the moment.

Monroe Avenue restores vintage furniture to bring a contemporary edge to old, faded and forgotten pieces. The sale is offering up to 40 per cent discount so if you like to have things that are a little different in your own home then you have have a wander through their store.

The new collections will be in soon too. The site is run by sisters Nichola Pergande and Valerie Weisenreder who have gathered an eclectic range of seating with pieces from almost every period, design and function, including Victorian wing back and Edwardian nursing chairs, Art Deco club chairs, 1960s pods, cinema seats and massage tables.

“Each item retains its individuality and reflects its heritage and design but is infused with a contemporary edge that creates ‘talkablity’,” they say.

“No offence to some of the High Street furniture retailers – well, yes, to some of them – but how often does a friend walk into your home and go wowza! where did that chair come from? The scenario is more likely to be wowza, that’s lovely and I have one in blue.

“We know we aren’t selling the crown jewels but we curate original furniture and add a contemporary twist – without having to go antiquing. We saw a gap in the market where Ikea meets Mayfair, John Lewis meets Camden, where the antique market meets lots and lots of work to transform furniture into what you see in the shops. So, Monroe Avenue curates and creates beautiful yet exclusive pieces of furniture with high street price tags. All at the click of a button.”

The sale currently includes this green silk art deco armchair reduced from £1,615 to £969 so, yes it’s an expensive chair but it’s the only one. And, assuming it’s the right colour, will go perfectly in a room full of more modern pieces to add the one off Wow factor that no-one else has. Or there’s a gorgeous little tub chair that is reduced to £540.

And that, my friends, is perfect Mad About The House Rules.
