There’s nothing I love more than a bit of multi-tasking furniture. Given that we Brits live in the smallest houses in Europe everything we own has to work hard for the money (name that tune) and if it’s capable of doing more than one thing then all the better.
I’m currently finishing off the book (ahem – did I mention it?) and have devoted one chapter to the spareroom home office. As I was writing it I realised that that is the one room where you need everything to do two jobs – bed and sofa, dressing table and desk, stool and bedside table.
I come back to this multi-functional coffee table by Norr 11 again and again for similar reasons. It comes in three sizes. You can turn the base to be high or low. The top functions as a giant tray so if you tend towards the supper on laps kind of vibe you can carry it in on this and lay it on the base.
And before anyone says – no it’s probably not great if you have small children bouncing up and down as obviously you can’t lean on it but for those of you that don’t this is a great idea. You can also have two or three and either move them around as needed or style them in front of the sofa in a group which is an increasingly fashionable, and practical look.
I also wanted to show you this black table too. It’s a version of my kitchen table but with straighter edges. This is perfect if you have a wooden floor and are worried about a clash of too many woods in the room. And it’s the same principle as the dark grey walls – imagine how a set of white plates laded with food are going to look against this dark background.
Here’s my table again for those who don’t follow on instagram where it makes regular appearances.
That black table is SO gorgeous.
ohmigod that black table, be still my heart!
What have you done to your Kitchen ceiling Kate?
It’s tin tiles from andythornton.com – the ceiling wasn’t really high enough for fabulous pendant lights so we did this as a way of adding interest. Also it goes with the stainless steel worktop at the other end of the room.
