New Look Habitat

habitat 1

So yesterday, I went off to Habitat to look at the new Autumn/Winter collection and also to see what progress they are making with the new design of the flagship store on Tottenham Court Road. This former car park next to Heals is in the process of a complete refurbishment which won’t be completed until next April.

The new collection is very strong. Described as mainly monochrome with lots of velvet and leather, it’s practically tailor-made for the Mad House. There’s masses of gorgeous black and ivory crockery, some of which will definitely be finding its way into my house soon.

All the floorboards have been stained black, which means that will be a trend coming to a house near you soon. Once it starts in the shops, then it goes to the restaurants and finally our homes; you have been warned. And just look how gorgeous all the furniture looks next to it. You’ll have to excuse my rather ropey pictures but you get the idea.

The kitchen collection is to be hugely expanded with dozens of worktops to choose from as well as a number of freestanding items too. This Banshee cupboard channesl a really 70s vibe with the frosted glass but with the black frame it has been updated to become completely a modern and slightly industrial piece. The designers started off making a unit for the kitchen but then decided it could work just as well as in a sitting room or office. Or huge industrial loft space should you happen to have one of those.

And, saving the piece of resistance till last; just look at Orrico. A hammered rose gold coffee table that also comes in beaten silver. Look how it sits so beautifully against that charcoal leather sofa. Or the walnut one below.

If you haven’t been to a Habitat recently then you should reintroduce yourself. There are now 66 mini stores within Homebases up and down the country with more to follow. There was lots more I could have shared but it’s very difficult to take good pictures in store.

Mind you, don’t forget the rather handsome green and grey Hawkins chair at the top. I could definitely find space for him. And if you don’t like green, it comes in all grey too. Fans of monochrome, by which I mean me, would love it sitting on Penrose above.

  1. I always loved Habitat but their supply chain has always been a bit ropey. Taking weeks if not months to deliver. If that has been improved, then they can count on me as a returning customer.

  2. Hi Kate – thanks for this. I was the Orrico on the TV advert last night and thought …. i want that ! Even the way the advert gives the impression that the company has changed its ‘approach’ slightly which is exciting.

Thought your readers may want to know that in the October addition of Grand Designs Magazine there is a 20% off at Habitat promotion flyer which you can use in the ‘homebase’ stores too which is great.

    1. That’s good news Fiona, thanks for sharing that, will go and buy the mag. And thank you Kate for showing some great pieces from the new collection. The black and ivory tableware looks amazing! I love the idea of a charcoal leather sofa too…great colour
