Objects of Design #126: The Up Table

Duffy London can always be relied upon to come up with witty and interesting furniture ideas and this is no exception.

While you might not actually want to buy this (the price tag makes it beyond the reach of most of us) I love the fact that they’re making things like this and wanted you to see it anyway.

It was inspired by the Film Up and the glass tabletop looks like it is being held up by a series of gold and silver balloons. It’s a limited edition of 20. I think perhaps I like the coffee table version even more as the balloon strings look even more realistic curled on the floor like that.

The coffee table version is £5,800 and, gotta love the optimism, there is an Add to Cart button on the site.

A few weeks ago I featured the rather brilliant Shadow Chairs from the same company

And when it comes to Mad furniture for the Mad House, I have to say a swing table would do it for me every time.

Duffy was founded in 2002 by Christopher Duffy, who graduated from the University of Brighton and became making products in his kitchen.

Duffy’s designs are ideas-based, combining art and function and playing with the concepts of gravity, geometry and illusion. Everything is handmade to order by skilled craftspeople in the UK, using sustainable wood and other eco-friendly materials and mediums.

  1. We love the Duffy London Ballon table! so imaginative but also sophisticated with the gold and silver. Almost celebratory, which we think is such a good aura to create in a family home.
We provide furniture too, check out our website as we’d love to help you and although our furniture’s not as unique we hope we can provide inspiration for your own home
