Objects Of Design #128: Candles

buy these candlesticks from nordicbliss.com

Nothing says atmosphere like candles and no-one does candles better than the Scandinavians who are obsessed with candlelight. Maybe it’s their long dark winters. Or maybe they just know who to create atmosphere but Marianne Brandi, the Director of Danish company DAY Home, told me that they buy candles like the British buy milk. They light them every single day. So where better to go that Hus and Hem, who stock 18 different colours of candles which are drip free and hand lacquered to be beautifully glossy. Beetroot, powder blue and earthy tones are just some of the gorgeous colours you will find here.

The website actually shows only part of the range. In fact they stock around 40 different colours and change them seasonally. This will not be a rush decision. I’m thinking, choose a colour and buy it in several different shades to create a sort of bouquet of candles in the middle of the table.

  1. I love this post and thanks for the tip on the bouquet of candles. I love the colours they have…why am I browsing candles when I have a to do list as long as my arm?
