Objects Of Design #174: Kilim Rug Floor Tile

Is it a rug is it a tile?

I really wanted to use tiles round the freestanding bath to create the effect of a bath sitting on a rug. I also quite fancied the trompe l’oeil effect of painting a kilim on to the kitchen floorboards under the kitchen table. I didn’t do that as I wanted the freedom to be able to move the table, but, if there’s only one position for the table, or you fancy the idea in a bathroom – like a bathmat or like the aforementioned rug – this is the place to come. It’s also a great idea for a hall runner. Anywhere a rug would be trashed by mud, water, dogs or children. You get the idea.
