Despite the fact that we are more design and furniture savvy than ever before it still seems hard to buy really cool, contemporary kids furniture. But it is out there if you know where to look.

Welcome to Perludi , an Austrian company that specialises in playful, multi-tasking furniture that can all be recycled.

Take the crib above, for example. Without that attachment it becomes a junior bed and finally, you can turn it up the other way and use it as an ottoman, which wouldn’t look out of place in an adult room, it has to be said.

The wood is all birch ply and spruce from Europe, which is then covered in loden, a 100 per cent wool textile, which gives a soft finish to the furniture to give a great tactile feel. All the glue is saliva resistant by the way – parents of chewers will appreciate that detail.

The company was founded in Austria in 2007. The name comes from the latin per ludum and means “for playing. I particularly love this piece below which doubles up as book or toy shelves or can be taken apart and used as a play to sit and read.
