Objects Of Design #193: Living Button Wall Hook

Make it as easy as possible for them to tidy up

Children and teenagers hate tidying up (well so do I come to that) and the solution is that you have to make it as easy as possible for them. My nine-year-old will have absolutely no truck with either a chest of drawers or a wardrobe. In fact, this is what happened when I told him to pick everything up off the floor and put it away so I could hoover the floor:

What happened when my son was asked to clear the floor

Well it was off the floor. In desperation, I turned to wall hooks. Loads of ’em. There are pots on hooks that hold pens and tape and scissors. There are hooks that hold tomorrow’s clothes, yesterday clothes, pyjamas and Tae Kwando kit. In short, anything that can be thrown over a hook and clutter up the wall rather than the floor is hung up. Now, clearly, it isn’t always him that hangs everything up but it does at least make it easier for me to do the job.

So hooks then. I just love these buttons. Their simple monochrome colours with a leather cross would look great in either a girl’s or a boy’s bedroom. They come in two sizes and three colours and would look fabulous on a dark grey wall as shown above.
