It may not seem like it when you’re deep in the land of nappies and no sleep, but they really do grow up so fast and it’s bad enough having to buy a constant stream of new beds/prams/shoes and clothes without feeling that the nursery you so lovingly decorated when you were six months pregnant, now needs an overhaul as well.

This is where I’m a huge fan of wallpaper. It’s easy to cover one wall and to replace it (or even paint over it when the time comes). But these designs from Kate Usher, who was inspired as a parent to move away from the stereotypical football or frills motif, will stay the course a bit longer.

My favourite is the aeronaut at the top, but I love that her designs come in more grown up colours, and what child won’t want to go to sleep counting meerkats?

For older children, there’s the surfing design, which would also work quite well in a bathroom (for advice on using wallpaper in a bathroom click here).

It costs £150 a roll, but you would probably only do one wall and these designs should last well beyond the first six years.
