Objects of Design #201: Nina’s House

ninas_house4
nina’s house is a cot, changing station and storage unit all in one

This is a very clever (if expensive – we might be as well be upfront about that part) idea. It has everything a newborn baby needs including a place to sleep and a space to play as well as a changing table and storage unit.

designed as a house within a room

The designer Dave Keune wanted to keep everything that a new baby would need in one place without feeling you had to renovate the whole house to accommodate a child.

So, it is a house within your house, or a house within your room. However you wish to describe it. The drawers under the changing station can be pushed open with your knee so you still have both hands free to attend to the baby.

Somehow, I’m just not surprised that this is a Dutch design as I mentioned the other day how innovative and interesting their ideas are.

You can buy this from littleplanet.nl or you can just visit the shop for a browse. It costs, by the way, €1,250, but then again if you were about to buy a chest of drawers, a changing table and a cot you probably wouldn’t have much change from that so perhaps it’s not that expensive after all.

  1. Is September baby/kids month???? I am an adult with no children and no interest in children’s decor. Please bring back adult themes!

    1. Hi Katherine, it’s one month only and there are other posts during the month which are about interiors and design. In addition to which, many of the posts are not specifically for kids but about more interesting stuff that could work in their rooms as well as elsewhere in the house. I felt it was important to show some design-conscious parents that there is cool stuff out there that might fit in their very cool houses. Please bear with me, or alternatively do drop back in October when we will be looking at lighting! Kate

      1. Thank goodness:) Can’t wait till October, actually I really need some ideas on lighting so the timing is perfect!
