Objects of Design #238: Kind of Magic Light

Who doesn’t want a little bit of magic in their home and this is such a great light. Used (boringly) hanging from the ceiling it’s a simple pendant lamp. But you can invert it so the ceiling rose becomes a stand and it appears to stay magically upright. There is also a smaller version for use on a table, although, I have to say, this photograph, which shows the wires hanging down doesn’t quite do it justice.

Black and Blum are an Anglo-Swiss team of designers and their products are always full of wit while keeping an element of practicality. They make great lunch boxes and a rather good dish drainer which folds down when not in use.

These magic lamps remind me of another version, the Cord Lamp by Form Us With Love, which is available from Design House Stockholm for the slightly less magic price of  £227.

And, given that some people find looking at a bare bulb rather stressful on the eyes, you might even be doing yourself a favour with the cheaper version which has a shade.
