Objects of Design #253: Silver Filigree Pomander

Sometimes it’s the details wot does it. What makes a house feel like a home (as it were). It’s the little things that add personality to a room and make it feel like someone lives there, rather than it just being a beautifully styled showcase.

This pretty scented pomander is one of those details. It needs to hang casually from a door handle or cupboard as if it just landed there and no-one ever thought about it again.

We have a similar arrangement in our house as you can see in the picture above. We found the door in the cellar when we moved in and wanted to use it somewhere in the house. The utility room was the only place where we could construct a hole to fit a door so it went there. It has only just occurred to me that the washing machine was installed before that wall and said, rather narrow, door were fitted. Still, never mind eh? Let’s hope we don’t need a new one any time soon *winces at the thought*.

Aaaaaaanyway, the tassle used to function as an elaborate key ring to an old wardrobe that we sold (to pay for a light switch or something) and as it was carried out of the door, I grabbed the tassle, removed the key, and slung it over the door handle. And there it has remained ever since.

I did try and move it once but it looked odd without it so I put it back.

So, back to the pomander. It comes in a pretty drawstring bag, refills are available and it costs £19.50. Would make a great present too.
