Another week, another exciting discovery for you. This time it’s the new venture of Richard Holman and Katy Shooter, otherwise known as Humblesticks.
Their email dropped into my inbox the other day, one of many as you can imagine. But this one really caught my eye so I thought I would share it with you.
The couple find old, and unloved mid-century furniture and give it a bit of 21st century pazazz.
Richard says: “We’re about colour, pattern and a sense of humour; old gin bottles reimagined as table lamps, with pop shades and coloured cables. A set of classic mid century Danish chairs given a flush of colour with a 1950’s ice cream parlour palette or a G plan nest of tables painted lead grey and topped with a mountain cool alpine print.
“We believe the age of mass production has already produced quite enough. We get a kick out of hunting down design classics, seeing beyond the peeling varnish and giving them a whole new lease of life.”
I’m already in love with the coloured flexes on all the lights, which, as anyone who followed the series on lighting will know, is one of my bug bears.
I also love the way they have painted the legs and under sides of the chairs to just give a subtle flash of colour. I would do mine in shades of grey with one neon pink.
