Objects of Design #270: Monochrome Throw

This is the perfect time of year to think about investing in cosy throws and changing your cushions for a bit of seasonal uplift.

The throw above is made from 100 per cent wool and inspired by the speckled eggs that you might see in the posh supermarkets at this, the canapé, time of year. It’s made by Eleanor Pritchard, whose work often has a rather mid-century feel to it.

Or what about this, which also comes in grey, but try indigo for a change? A reversible blanket, whose name, 525, comes from the number of lines on an American analogue television. And that’s the kind of fact that’s a Trivial Pursuit winner, so don’t forget it.

Finally, if you don’t fancy a throw, then changing cushions is more affordable and just as effective. This gorgeous black and white version from Imogen Heath will go in any colour scheme and sit happily on pretty much any colour of sofa.

Mind you, if you’ve already been very directional and bought a grey or black sofa, then how about this to soften it? I love the idea of contrasts; monochrome on a pretty pink sofa and florals on a masculine and buttoned up mid-century version.
