Objects of Design #254: Kitchen Matches

If you’re a fan of candles, then in addition to the sticks to stand them in, you’ll also be needing these. Now I know matches are rather dull, useful things but these boxes are so pretty that I would want them out on display (I know children/safety/matches/danger etc but you can have them on a high shelf).

The designs are beautifully drawn and each box is re-usable, which makes the £4.95 price tag a little more bearable.

They’re made by an American company called HomArt and sadly Plumo doesn’t seem to stock the full range, but I have also tracked them down to Heals  if you want different designs.

Now it may be a bit early to mention the dreaded C-word but, if you were in the market for buying presents for anyone at this time of year, you could do worse than a couple of pretty candles wrapped up with a velvet ribbon and a box of matches to go with it?

And while we’re on the subject of candles. What about these? They are, I realise, a rather mental price, but the china pot is so gorgeous and will obviously last for ever and I can tell you that the scent is divine.
