Perch Light

Given that I’m married to someone who professes to be afraid of birds ( I know –  him and David Beckham both – they have soooo much in common I can’t tell you) it’s ironic that I keep finding things I really love with birds on them. Remember the tweetie light?

This Perch Light, by Umut Yamac, is made from folded paper and brass and the bird lights up when it comes into contact with the base. It then swings gently back and forth while providing light. There’s a vimeo on the website if you click the images.

He also made this roller clock as well as the ingenious, but more complicated, cage clock which doubles as a lampshade and a clock. The shade has 24 fins that correspond to 30 minute time intervals. Internally, the cage structure creates an enclosure for a light fitting and the clock hands, which have been re-imagined as two birds, which circle within the cage. The time is read by the position of the birds in relation to the fins.

I would love the table light version on my desk (what desk, yes I know hahaha! watch this space I’m getting a desk) although I think I might spend all day just watching the birds dance round rather than working.

Have a happy day people. I’ll be back tomorrow.
