Plug-in Wall Light

This is one of those ideas that is so simple I can’t think why there aren’t more of them about.

Wall lights, of which you all know I am a fan, usually need to come with an electrician attached and can be quite a big deal to install. Even the ones that plug in usually need to be fixed to the wall even if you don’t have to chase all the cables into the plaster and make good.

But every often there isn’t room for a table to stand a light on. Or you don’t want the clutter. This seems to me like a clever solution and one that would be useful in so many rooms of the house.

I could definitely find room for one in the kitchen as a change from the overhead spots. And, what about changing the bulb to one of those fashionable incandescent ones with the pretty filaments to use in a bedroom or sitting room. The light they give is much softer so shouldn’t hurt your eyes.

But for those of you who don’t like staring at a naked bulb, and it’s not a look that’s for everyone, I’m sure it would be possible to fit a shade over the top.

It comes (from the US) in two heights 24 or 36 inches and is made by Feldmark. You can choose from white ash with a blue pole or black walnut and, what they call, olive drab, for either $139 or $159 depending on the length.

I could really find room for one of these at either end of the sofa. What do you think?

  1. I echo Afa’s comment, GENIUS. Would a Venetian shade cover be a possible solution? And thank you for such a wonderful, blog. Inventive and inspiring!

  2. exactly what I’ve been looking for! such a shame they don’t ship to Europe. I wonder if anyone in the UK has anything similar?

  3. Genius. Love this. Definitely no shade for me, and I wonder what a dull brass would look like?
