Shades of Grey: The Wayfair Sale

Those awfully nice people at Wayfair contacted me a few weeks ago to ask if I would curate a sale based around the book. Well, it seemed rude not to and so they have gathered together a veritable FEAST of products in all shades that you can browse through and buy for a limited time only.

We chose the items for the sale based around the images in the book which I have tired to recreate here. Or at the very least to give you some ideas for how everything can go together.

I have written before (and also in the book) about how it can be difficult to layer shades of grey paint as you can end up with lots of greys that just don’t quite go if you don’t know the composition of the colours – are they blue-based or yellow-based for example.

But it’s much easier with textiles as if everything is made from different materials it is much easier to layer it up and create a really stunning effect with different colours from pale through to dark. You can then throw in some accent colours to really make everything sing.

Wayfair have run some of my design tips in an interview to go with the sale which you can read here.

Here you see some of my favourite images from the book and also some of my favourite pieces from the sale. I hope you will enjoy a little browse when the sale goes live on 7 March. It lasts for seven days. Have fun…

In the meantime here’s a little interview they did with me in advance of the sale

I hope you will find some things you like. Wayfair is such a huge shop – in their own words they sell a “zillion”things so at least this way, if you like grey, you have a ready made curation of pieces and don’t have to wade through tonnes of stuff that doesn’t fit your brief.

Let me know how you get on.

  1. Huzzah! Belated congratulations! What a wonderful accomplishment. A far nobler goal than, say, running a half marathon as part of your bucket list (not naming friends’ names here).

  2. Hi!
I love the bar stools on the cover of your new book. Is there any chance you could tell me where you brought them and how much they cost?
    Thank you!
    Best wishes
    A big fan!
