From the outside this looks like a sweet little cottage doesn’t it. Can you picture the inside? Low ceilings, neutral carpet (to maximise the light) low slung, slightly chintzy sofa and a country-style kitchen with an AGA.

Well think again. I love how this house turns all your expectations on their head. Yes there are beams, but the vendors of this Canterbury home created something really modern and different and I love it. It’s on the market for £260,000 via The Modern House (click the link for more pictures).

It’s a Grade II listed cottage with two bedrooms right in the centre of the town. Dating back to the 16th century, it has been refurbished by an architect who installed custom furniture throughout while keeping, and refurbishing, many of the original features. A parquet floor has been added and the whole of the downstairs opened up to create a single open-plan space. What do you think?

Next we’re off to France. To another 16th century property – this time a dovecote in Pertuis, in the Luberon, Provence, basically. This one’s for sale for around £701,000 via Knight Frank.

It was completely renovated in 2011 and is in a perfect holiday location, so you can totally justify the price…. as long as you are prepared to rent it out to others and never go there yourself. Well only in January.

Mind you it does have a fireplace so it might be wonderful in winter… There’s a swimming pool too and a covered terrace leading from one of the bedrooms.

And if you’re still not sure it’s close to the TGV station at Aix en Provence and Marseille airport. In fact, where is my lottery funding application. I think I’ll take it.

Finally to New York. We’ll go modern now. This is the penthouse apartment belonging to Tamara Mellon (shoes for those who don’t know the name. Or perhaps I should say Choos).

Located off Fifth Avenue, the poor dear has just had to drop the price to £19,000,000 (via Sothebys) when it failed to sell for about £23m. It’s ENORMOUS. Not only is there more than 7,000 sq ft inside (which nearly four times the size of my house) but there’s a further 5,000 sq ft OUTSIDE. And this is in Manhattan people. So you can see where the price is coming from. Whether it’s justifiable is another story. But we’re not here for that.

We’re only here for the shoes. Look at that for a cupboard. But seriously w whole shelf of red ones? Really? And they all look sort of the same? I mean I do have a lot of boots but they are all different colours. Well apart from the black ones, but still.

There are ten rooms in total, below is the master bedroom, and there are four others, four wood-burning stoves and a solarium. So, should I ask? Who’s buying what this week? I have to say I’m quite tempted by Canterbury. But I’ll come and stay with whoever’s buying New York.
