Come on we’re off to Redenhall on the Norfolk-Suffolk border to see this seven bedroom grade II listed medieval hall house that’s on the market for £735,000 via fineandcountry.com.

It’s located next to the village church, which also means it’s within walking distance of the pub too. For some reason every village I’ve ever been to seems to have the pub next to the church. I’ve never found out if one follows the other or if it’s the hand of God understanding his congregation.

Either way, the grounds are surrounded by walled gardens and there’s also a two bedroom cottage which is currently rented out as a holiday let and brings in £600 a week. It adjoins the main house though so if seven bedrooms aren’t enough for you, there’s scope to increase the living space.

As you can see it’s a symphony of dark wood (remember what I told you about Habitat yesterday) shades of grey and lots of white wood and tiling. That has to be the most stylish and tasteful child’s bedroom I’ve ever seen in my life. Pause for all parents reading this to either scoff at the styling or sigh sadly at their own mountains of plastic tat.

Now suddenly, have just done two bathrooms, I’m desperate for a bit of painted tongue and groove. This looks great and the yellow and white shower curtain really brings this space to life. Even though I can’t really do yellow, this is a short of dirty, dark yellow that could work for me.

Now what about this for an entrance then? Aren’t these black and white tiles gorgeous with the simple wooden stairs and white walls. It won’t surprise you to know that this house is in Sweden, a few metres back from the sea.

It’s on the market with Stadshem and is a large farmhouse with two spacious wings. The agent suggests living in one wing (pictured here) and either using the other as an office or gym or converting it into another home perhaps as a Granny annexe or similar.

black sitting room

It’s true to say that no-one seems to do black and white quite like the Swedes do they? This house has even managed to realise my long-held dream of two sitting rooms; one black and one white depending on the time of day and year that you want to be using them.

floorboards, white walls, monochrome, swedish

Although if I could recreate a verandah like this I’d never bother with either. This has to be the nicest outdoor seating area I’ve ever seen. I mean ever. So I’ve got the deck, can I roof it over and recreate this that is the question? This one is on the market for around £789,000 by the way.

outdoor terrace

I can’t top this picture so I’m going to leave you sitting here, with a cup of coffee in hand looking out over the view.

Have a great weekend.

  1. Thks especially for the details on the Norwich property. Lovely calm interiors. Just makes me feel like selling up in London and heading off to Norwich. Time for a cafe I think.
