I don’t know about you but I have several dream kitchens. The one I currently own is definitely one of them. A few tweaks here and there – enough space for a slouchy sofa for example – and after that it’s perfect. But I have another dream too. One where nothing is fitted – I know that’s not practical but hey it’s my dream.

This second dream kitchen (perhaps for my equally fantastical house in Italy) would have brass taps, dark grey or black kitchen units and lots of brass – taps, lights handles. The worktop would be wood, which I have already had and discounted as impractical, but again it’s a dream. Failing that swathes of Cararra marble and pendant and wall lighting. No more spots and downlighters for me. There would also be freestanding cupboards and shelves. Like the ones above. Perhaps a whole row of them along one wall stacked with my imperfectly matched white crockery, monochrome mugs and an assortment of tumblers – for the drinking of red wine thereof.

This unit, from Design Vintage has been made from a haberdashery cabinet and costs £395. It’s 150cm high, 62cm wide and 47cm deep.

I have a third dream kitchen too but that’s for another time…

How would you decorate your dream kitchen?
