Black Chalkboard Fridge

I can’t tell you how long I have been looking for one of these. I’ve seen them on Pinterest and I’ve seen DIY versions but I’ve never actually seen a proper one that you can buy. After all, who’s going to mess with painting a fridge which already cost hundreds of pounds. What if it goes wrong. What if you muck it up and need to strip it back? I don’t think so.

Perhaps Smeg have been listening to the chat out there for they have now released their black fridge that you CAN.ACTUALLY. WRITE.ON.

write-on fridge

I want it so much. I can’t have it. But I want it. Firstly I already have a perfectly good fridge freezer. And there’s the second problem – freezer. This is a fridge with a freezer compartment and I need more than that.

So, sadly for me, this will not be joining my kitchen, where it would fit so perfectly with the decor but you, you people who are refurbing, redecorating, in need of new appliances, you can have one.

You’re welcome.

  1. emails are back up and running again today so panic over 😉
I absolutely love this fridge too but ditto as to not getting one as ours is very new and that would literally push him over the edge.
a client a while ago was asking about blackboard and fridge and I was too nervous to suggest too much DIY like you said as they are expensive items to muck up. I think i finished with suggesting a few blackboard sticker pieces or something but this…. this is fabulous

  2. I have an integrated fridge & I painted it with chalkboard paint. Maybe it’s slightly less intimidating when you are only likely to mess up a door, rather than an expensive white good. I just muttered ‘it’s only paint’ & did about 3 coats. There is that slight panic after coat 1, when it looks like the aftermath of a localised kitchen fire…

    1. That comment made me laugh out loud! I know what you mean though. I have thought about painting a fridge but been too scared in case it doesn’t work. I’m just sort of surprised that no-one had already done it. Seems like a sort of no-brainer to me given that everyone sticks stuff on their fridges. The next thing will be to make a white one that is like a whiteboard so you can just write on it and rub it off. Perhaps you already can? My fridge is stainless steel so I can’t try it out.
      Anyone?….

      1. I own a plain white fridge, and used to write with a whiteboard marker the weekly menus on top. You can do it w/ no worries. The only thing is that my fridge is old and has a few scratches, so what happens is that when you wipe it off, some of the ink of the marker stays on the scratches. That’s why I don’t do it anymore. 🙂

  3. ive forward this to my husband with fingers crossed… he wants a huge american style monstrosity…. ill be fighting this beauts corner…wish me luck 😉
