Christmas Gift Guide Round Up

For those of you who have refused to engage before now. Who are always last minute. Who have forgotten or can’t find ideas for that one person. Here is a round up this year’s room by room guides. Each one has more suggestions and ideas to build out from a starting point so – evil genius laugh – you might need to look at them all and there are a few more ideas here too. Then either hit a department store which sells everything under one roof or be prepared to throw money at delivery. Good luck and good shopping.

These pretty candlesticks were from the kitchen gift guide which had lots of ideas for the beautiful everyday. Obviously candlesticks are for any room in the house. Buy a couple of these, add some really great candles and maybe write a promise that you will take the recipient out for a candlelit dinner at a time and place of their choosing. Not being stereotypical but last minute men – this will work. Add the garage flowers only as a joke or a precursor to this.

This coffee table came from the sitting room guide. Yes you can buy furniture but think around it too…. what goes on the coffee table? Can you add a book, a bottle of wine, a couple of glasses or a decanter. A vase of flowers? Start with a tray rather than an actual table.

That said trays are always a good starting point for a present. In the bedroom gift guide, they work as a promise of lie-ins and relaxation. Buy a vintage toast rack, some really good coffee (or tea) and a good mug. Don’t forget the magazine subscription for this one. Weekend mornings made.

Bathrooms are easy. For the gift guide to the bathroom gift guide think luxury and pampering and walk yourself through the process from sustainable towels, to a cosy dressing gown or simply a bag filled with favourite skincare and makeup and a fabulous mirror. If someone loves plants, buy a good pot and a watering to go with the plant. These things don’t have to be expensive but a collection or three small things that go together will always carry more thought than a single expensive one. Unless it’s a Prada bag – I’ll take a single Prada bag… but there’s always an exception to every rule and, my suspicion is that that is often a last minute no time to think throw money at it kind of present anyway.

Lastly the home office gift guide. Stationery is almost too easy for this one but if you and your giftee are into experiences rather than stuff, then a noticeboard (doesn’t have to be this one) with a ticket to an upcoming gig, a postcard of a place you might like to go on holiday together. A key ring representing an activity he/she/you both like to do. Once you start thinking like this it becomes easier to build out the idea to fit the person.

Happy Holidays to you all and you’ll be needing some of this.

  1. I love the idea of building up a gift with related items. I have made a little hamper for a coffee loving BIL. Locally roasted coffee beans (he has his own grinder and a myriad of filters), a pair of handthrown coffee cups and some lovely handmade chocolates and biscuits to go with the coffee!
