So yesterday was all about the virtual inspiration board that is Pinterest and today I have decided to show you this real pegboard for those of us who prefer things in 3D. As you read this I will be heading off to meet a client for some interiors styling.
“Can we confirm our meeting” I emailed. “I sent you a calendar invite,” came the swift response.
Well that’s no good is it I thought crossly. I didn’t see that. I don’t operate an electronic calendar. I am strictly pen and paper when it comes to diaries and calendars. Are any of the rest of you the same? I set lots of reminders on my phone (often to check the paper diary) but I don’t actually use the diary or calendar functions. I am so much more likely to remember something when I have written it down than when I have typed it. Perhaps because I type all day.
This little exchange also reminded me of moving in here nearly eight years ago. Pinterest hadn’t even been invented then and I had folders of tear sheets from magazines. It was becoming impossible to manage them and in the end I stuck them all over a wall of woodchip wallpaper in the last room to be decorated so I could refer to it whenever I needed.
I would often come in and find the builders staring at it too. “This the mother ship is it?” said one of them once.
And it sort of was. Until that room had to be decorated. And the tear sheets came down. And then Pinterest happened.
But for those of you who like a pegboard, these ones by Nikki Kreis are brilliant. Hang utensils or mini shelves. Use them as vertical desk tidies to clear some horizontal space and put them in offices, kitchens, bathrooms and bedrooms.
Prices vary according to size and decor but the smallest start at £95 going up to £227 for the top one which measures 66cm x 114cm and comes with four shelves (two large and two small) and six pegs. You can buy extra if required.
I might get one to stand my diary and pens on…..
I’m 100% still Filofax dependent Kate!! 🙂
Hi Kate,
Thanks so much for the lovely post or our new patterned plywood pegboards!
Best wishes,
Nikki
I’ve always liked pegboards as they’re very versatile. The ones shown above are nice, but very expensive for what they are, as they’re easy to make with some plywood and doweling, or you can buy ready made pegboard from a DIY place for less cost.
My mother had an enormous pegboard in the kitchen, but it was the old-fashioned kind (not unlike Julia Childs’s), painted yellow like the rest of the kitchen. Pegboards are definitely smart/useful. These look almost like wallpaper, with the large holes and clever geometric designs. Very nice!
