Glass Table Lamps by Anna Jacobs

Aren’t these lamps gorgeous? Monochrome with a hint of colour in the flex, I just love them. They are by the British designer Anna Jacobs who began her career as an artist (while working for a big City law firm) before launching her homewares line last January.

The collection now includes these gorgeous lamp as well as cushions and paintings – both original and prints. I’ve had a glass-based lamp for about ten years and I remember when I bought it thinking that the designer had been so clever to fit it with a transparent flex – back then it was all white plastic remember – but this is the modern version for the 21st century. Use a coloured flex in a contrasting colour and coil it up in the base to make a feature of it.

It will come as no surprise to you to know that my favourite is the top one, which I would love with a bright pink or orange cord, but these two other designs are also gorgeous and would really bring a corner to life. So often we just stick a lamp on a table for practical reasons and then try and arrange things around it – photographs, paperweights, flowers etc – but this way the lamp is part of the arrangement.

The lamps come in two sizes – small for £119 and large for £139 and you can also buy just lampshades or just bases. I thought I had all the cushions I needed but I may just have to have the Beak street bolster (pictured below) before I am very much older. It needs to be on my black velvet sofa don’t you think?

Finally, I should say that I can’t claim the credit for discovering Anna Jacobs, that goes to Carole at Dear Designer who used one of the lamps in a styling job she did recently.

What do you think? Anyone suddenly feeling the need for more lighting in their house?

  1. Hi Kate,

I love these lamps – about 4 years ago John Lewis used to do a very similar design and I had the one with a bright pink flex and lamp shade. It also came in bright orange, dark blue and black, maybe with a green. I never understood why they discontinued them!

  2. I just love the top one too and will buy one for sure if they deliver to France. Just beautiful…. Thanks for this post!

  3. These lamps are just stunning. I have fallen in love with the Welsh reflections one as it would go beautifully with my grey/blue sofas but then I wonder should I go wild and have an orange one to jazz it all up a bit? Oh the joyful misery of indecision…. Thanks for putting them on your blog. I am loving all of your posts!
