Large Floor Cushion

The 16-year-old has been redecorating his bedroom. It appears to be some sort of post GCSE don’t-make-me-get-a-Saturday-job sort of plan. Not that I was going to, but it has clearly done him no harm to think I might.

Actually when I say redecorating I use the term loosely. There was one lime green wall, three white ones and a black carpet. There are now four white walls. Ground-breaking it ain’t. But he’s done a good job of it and only got paint on one pair of new shorts. Oh and one t-shirt. And a towel. And apart from that it’s perfect. Although now I come to think of it the bed was moved back suspiciously quickly, so who knows what has happened to the carpet?

Still, moving on. His clothes are, as per, still decorating the floor. In one corner there is a large lime green bean bag. Now that the offending colour has been removed from the wall, I suggested he might like to get rid of the bean bag which takes up a huge amount of space and has literally never been sat on.

He looked at me with incredulity. “Why would I get rid of it?”

“Because it’s taking up loads of space and you don’t sit on it.”

“But where would I put my clothes?”

The beanbag is staying. I might tell you that there is a chest of drawers,  a row of hooks and a cupboard in this room already. Just you know, so you know what we are dealing with here. Although obviously the cupboard is useless as the beanbag sits in front of it preventing the door from being opened. Just telling you that. So you know.

But I will come up with a cunning plan to sort this out. This might be that. This large floor cushion from Urban Outfitters works in any tween or teen bedroom. They work as low level sofas for that bedsit look so beloved of the younger generation  – that is they love it until they actually have to live in one.

If not needed it could actually slide under the bed leaving more floor space free for clothing decoration. And, although it isn’t the size of a single bed you could certainly fit a small person on it for a night or two. It’s about 6ft long but only a little over 2ft wide.

The top one is a slightly different version which has a back rest but is a smaller cushion. No sleeping on that one but good for sitting. And *sigh* clothes draping.

  1. I’m with you on this one – my teen actually folds his clothes before placing on the beanbag – the wardrobe is one step from the beanbag??!!!?? I no longer question….

  2. These cushions are FABULOUS! Very versatile, comfy, and take roughing-up beautifully.

  3. I thought that first picture actually was a 1970s bedsit – all brown, beige and orange, complete with shag pile carpet! I know every style gets recycled eventually but…

  4. I dunno about this one – maybe my student days are too recent for me to really embrace the shabby chic look but I feel like it would look like you’d just bunged a mattress on the floor?
