Mad About … Neutrals

Sometimes I want nothing more than a quiet browse through some wonderful pictures. I don’t want lots of information and words (yes, even me). I just want to pour a cup of coffee and soak up the images.

With this in mind, why not join me in a scroll through these gorgeous rooms. They are all real houses from the back catalogue of west London estate agent Domus Nova who specialise in luxury property.

The first two were designed by Clare Lloyd, who used to be an art director at Australian Vogue before coming to London.

It’s easy to see how an all white scheme could be a little stark, and truth be told, I would probably add the odd rug or bookshelves to these, but you can see how, with lots of different textures, including chipped paint on the table’s trestles, it avoids being completely sterile.

I do approve of this restful bedroom, although I’d remove the spotlights and add wall or pendant lamps – perhaps a simple Lee Broom crystal bulb so as not to detract from the calm effect.

Below, a black window gives focus to this all white scheme.

The row of wall cupboards slides back to reveal all the stuff of daily life. I would be tempted to leave them open – assuming everything in them was as colour-coordinated as the rest of the room.

I love this picture at the end of the hall. What a great idea.

This house belonged to a former designer at Agent Provocateur and is far from dull despite its neutral palette.

Still not convinced by all the cushions on the bed though.

This kitchen ticks many of the current favourites; metrol tiles, natural wood, open shelving.

The chairs are a very pale shade of blush pink which is wonderful with the black iron stairs and chunky wooden beams.

Another space that makes use of neutrals without being dull. I might rough it up a little bit with some more statement lighting – and I don’t mean chandeliers.

Finally, a monochrome space. I love how the black worktops anchor the white cupboards and provide definition to the space.

So there you go. It’s just a page of pleasing interiors. Enjoy. There’s plenty more of this sort of thing on my Pinterest boards if you’ve still got some coffee in the mug…

  1. What a great post, I so love white but this reminds me that you CAN have too much of a good thing. The first image is fabulous.
