Mad About … White Kitchens: Trend 2014

For some of us the white kitchen has never gone away but it is, apparently, a strong trend for 2014. According to the Wall Street Journal, the clean, sleek style white kitchens will be where it’s at this year.

This is partly due to the emergence of white appliances which give a more streamlined look. Chrome can look a bit cold and clinical can’t it?

And I speak as someone who has a stainless steel worktop, which I love for its practicality and toughness. But as we have a large space with a wooden table and rug at the other end of the room, it is softened slightly.

We have also just repainted the kitchen. Yes, again. Some of you will remember that it went from off white to grey last year. This may or may not have had something to do with the arrival of a certain small grey cat. Anyway, it just wasn’t the right colour and it has returned to a different shade of chalky off white – wimborne white if you want to know exactly.

The shelves have remained charcoal (downpipe) and look fantastic against the white walls … all will be revealed soon – this is how it looked first of all.

I first discovered these white appliances during last year’s Blog Tour in New York. Here are some of the other white appliances and sinks that are now available.

Of course a white kitchen doesn’t have to be all white. You can use natural textures to introduce subtle colour and create a more organic feel.

If the budget runs to it then carrara marble is wonderful in a white kitchen as you can see from the image above. The subtle grey pattern adds a little interest and texture. And don’t forget the metro tiles.

In this narrow kitchen, the all white colour scheme maximises the space and light. Whereas in the room below, the expanse of white walls and windows creates a wonderful feeling of luxury and opulence.

  1. Hi, I have a white kitchen and I would love the white oven too, we have stainless steel which is not a great look. It would take a lot for me not to at least have the base kitchen white, it’s interesting you’ve gone back to the chalky white. It looks amazing in the photo, I look forward to seeing the new version soon.

  2. my new kitchen is about to go in and is white. Although I have been strugerling with the idea of white oven, but these fab photo’s have swayed me! Thanks for the brilliant inspiration!

  3. It does of course help a lot in the last kitchen, if the very room is already luxurious and opulent – before it was even painted white!:-)
