Sometimes you just want something simple and minimal that does its job with elegance and isn’t rushing into the room shouting: “Look at me. Look at ME.”

Yes, of course sometimes that is exactly what you want, but it’s like school – you can’t have everybody shouting at the same time or it’s chaos. Every so often you just want to deal with the person sitting quietly with their hand up as they probably have something interesting to say.

That’s this mirror. It’s 76cm high and and 61cm wide and there’s just the simplest of brass shelves bisecting it. Great for the hall, perfect for the bathroom – as long as you treat it in the minimalist manner it deserves. That means just a beautiful bottle of perfume and, if it’s in the hall, a candle or small dark green plant (something dark to give it a bit of edge). If you can do that and not clutter it or force it to shout to make its presence felt then this is the piece for you.

It’s from westelm and it costs £149.
