Muuto: A New Perspective

I read a fashion blog post the other day which was singing the praises of a red bag and saying you would be surprised at how many outfits it would go with. Even if you don’t wear red normally (as indeed I don’t) a splash of red instead of the usual black or brown will really bring an extra something to your wardrobe, it said.

And then I saw these images from Muuto and I thought they illustrated the point exactly. A contrasting colour really pops out against a monochrome background and, while it doesn’t have to be red, think about green or pink instead, this particular soft version looks fantastic.

And, dare I say it, better than my beloved nude pink. It’s just a bit more of a statement. So if you’re afraid of colour in large, and mixed doses, which I definitely am, think about choosing one extra shade and throwing in a small amount; a colour light flex, perhaps just one chair, even a cushion to get you going.

Take this image below for example; it’s also from Muuto but imagine a red sofa, or a red table at the end of it. Don’t you think it would really finished the room off to perfection?

Give it a try next time you’re planning a new accessory and remember if it works in your wardrobe it will work in your house.

All these products are from Muuto, a Danish company whose name was inspired by the Finnish word for new perspective muutos. All their designs strive for muutos and I think these images have certainly given me some.

And in an update that has yet to be finished: Here is the new lamp I have bought for the loft. I say new, it’s vintage and I plan to paint the base in soft black and change the cable to a red twisted fabric one. See how I practice what I preach?
