Object of Design: Copper Coffee Stand

Oh it feels good to be back on a Tuesday. Let’s celebrate with one of my favourite drinks – no not that one, that’s for later –  I meant coffee. I am a terrible coffee addict. I drink far too much of it but, you know what? I don’t care. I did give it up once for about nine months. I was in bed for three days with the worst headache in living memory and then, finally I was able to get up and go back to work.

It was so bad coming off caffeine that I swore I would never go back to it. And then, one day about nine months later, I just thought to myself; I want coffee. I have no idea why I’m not drinking it. I can remember no benefits to not drinking it and it seemed ridiculous, when it was one of things I like drinking most, not to have it.

So I started up again. And I still love every single cup of it. These days I make it in a white Stelton cafetiere at about 7.15am. Four scoops so it’s good and strong and a decreasing amount of milk as I keep refilling the cup. So the first one is hot, strong and milky. The best. The last one tends to be cold and black but I’m still pretty happy with that. Then, when the pot is empty, I take a large bottle of fizzy water from the fridge, a big glass from the shelf and I start on that. That keeps me going until later when I might get a different shaped glass (one with a stem) and a different bottle from the fridge, or the shelf, and start on that.

And that’s pretty much all I drink. Coffee, water and wine. I make the odd foray into cocktails about three times a year – an Aperol Spritz on the beach – that sort of thing. I never drink tea. We shall speak no more of that on these pages. At the weekends, after lunch or dinner, I might add an espresso into the mix. Sometimes caffeinated, sometimes not. And, when out and about, I like a macchiato. I am, at heart, a simple soul. At least when it comes to my liquid refreshment.

This coffee stand really caught my eye. It’s not as convenient as a cafetiere, what with having to buy filters and the like, but it would look so pretty in a kitchen. I may have to have it. I love that it’s metallic and I love that it has a faint air of laboratory about it. It costs £45 from The Mint List and hey, it’s Christmas soon….

If I was clever with photoshop I’d have changed that mug to a K but I’m not so I haven’t. Mind you, I have plenty of other black and white mugs that would look great next to that copper so it’s not all bad.

  1. Confirmed coffee addict here. Double espresso always wins the day! I’ve fallen in love with the copper pipe device thingy. It looks gorgeous (reaches for piggy bank)…

  2. What a cool coffee gadget – I am obsessed with both copper piping and coffee, so this is fab! I also drink too much of the dark stuff (hot, strong and milky is the best) but don’t care. It’s my only vice (more or less) 😉

  3. Copper = Yay!!
Coffee = Makes me a bit ill. I can only handle one proper cup of tea a day or I get the shakes. Useless.
Could you just change your name to Cate for this post? Much easier than working out how to photoshop!

  4. Well spotted, that is a gorgeous piece! I saw some like this recently being used to brew coffee at a food fair and they looked so quirky all lined up together. I really like the copper of this one, very on trend.

  5. I gave up caffeinated coffee when I became pregnant with my daughter and I’ve never gone back. I can honestly say I noticed no difference whatsoever. I’m not sure I’ll ever go back if I’m honest. I do like this coffee stand though! Great find!
