Regular readers will know that I do love a stool. And I do love an object for the house with a bit of wit. Life’s too short to take the decor too seriously and things that raise a smile or a laugh are always welcome in my house.

For that reason, I rather love this concrete stool with the design of a fly from Holly’s House. It costs £86, but if you really can’t love the fly then you might prefer this plain version with pale turquoise legs. I’d have one of each. Money no object and space permitting and all that …

When we first moved into this house I considered having a painted rug on the kitchen floorboards instead of using a real rug. This was partly because I love a bit of trompe l’oeil and partly because I thought it might be more practical when it came to cleaning up. I also wanted to have a mouse’s tail peeping out from under a slightly lifted corner too but figured it might literally be the death of my mother-in-law so I refrained. Anyway, this fly on a stool appeals to me in a similar sort of way.
