Objects of Design #312: Smith Storage Unit

I do love a bit of multi-tasking furniture and this is no exception. The Smith storage unit by Jonathan Olivares doesn’t just double up but quadruples up as a chair, a table, a storage unit and a computer/tv stand. Oh and it can store books and files too.

It’s such a clever idea and at least its multi-function goes some way towards justifying the £400 price tag. Although if money is no object (or someone else is paying) I should, in the interests of completeness, point out that you can stack them…

The really neat thing about it is that if you work at the kitchen table, as I do, then you could have this by your side during the day and simply wheel it out of the way when the table needs to be used for its primary function.

Mind you, I was promising myself that this year I would leave the kitchen (and the fridge) and finally make an office in the spare room. But with kit like this about it’s tempting to stay where I am.

  1. That has to be one of the cleverest things I’ve seen in a long time. What a fantastic idea, the person who came up with that one must have had the biggest “lightbulb moment” ever! 🙂
