My Grandmother always used a butter dish. I very rarely do. Although I wish I did. I own one almost exactly the same as this and it is entirely pleasing to remove it from the fridge with a block of ice cold butter in it and set it on the table next to a loaf of French bread. The butter must come from the fridge otherwise it’s just a melting mass of calories and the bread must be French. A few salted radishes is also good. By all means use the spreadable stuff for breakfast when you’re in a hurry but try this for lunch. It will be better, I promise. We do not speak of the spreading stuff that begins with M. Ever.
